Spring is in the Air

80 degrees today!  Woot!  Clean Doggies!

Florida has a bit of a history with freaky Groundhog Day storms; tomorrow and the rest of the week are forecast warm rainy weather.  Just what the spring plants need.  As usual, I didn't get everything done I wanted; but new beds are in place, potting soil mixed and in pots; corn seed down in the back.  Neighbor's oak tree branches growing over the top our grapefruit tree have been removed.   I'll get out tomorrow once the rain starts and spread some 10-10-10 fertilizer on the fruit trees, tomato's and eggplants.  Yes, we managed to overwinter a few tomato and eggplant and they are setting buds and blooming!

Spotted butterflies, bees ...... and something ate the tips off every single sugar snap pea.  Shucky darn; and they were just finally starting to bloom.

Rosie went through the whole garden  area checking on all her babies.  Cannon went through with his nose to the ground tracking the possum trails.  Then pooped on it.  You can count on Cannon to remind those critters just whose yard this is.

The kiddo's do their part to help protect the garden.  Chase the squirrels, track the possums; spread plenty of dog hair around, oh, and allow themselves to get a bath in the garden.  Water and Dr. Bonner's Eucalyptus soap suds.

The 2' wide section running along the fence edge has been setting and marinating since September.  It was built up with a whole.lot of mulched pine needles and oak leaves, several bags of peat moss and black cow and a bag of pine shavings bedding from the feed store.  Mixed up a bit  then covered in pine needles and let sit.   The soil has turned out really nice and friable.  It is so loose my crutch tip sinks in about 2".

Now to figure out what is eating the pea stalks before the corn starts coming up.
